The Trial of Superdebthunterbot
The experimental film The Trial of Superdebthunterbot deals with ethical problems and liability issues regarding the increasing and often invisible computer-aided automation of our lives. He creates a fictitious scenario in which a debt collection company programs an algorithm called “Superdebthunterbot” in order to reduce the number of defaulting borrowers: Potential customers are to be targeted on the basis of Big Data by placing job offers on pages they often visit. As a result of the algorithm’s actions, however, five people die and a court case is opened in which the “intelligent” algorithm is accused. The question is raised as to who is accountable for self-learning software agents.
