working|environment. Media, Organisational Forms and Symbolic Practices of Contemporary Work in the Office
Media Studies and Interdisciplinary Conference of the ZeM from 17 to 19 March 2022
The conference asks about the media, the knowledge bases and the organisational forms of changes to which the office has been subjected in recent years. Based on an ostentatious flexibility in start-up cultures as well as against the background of differentiating consultancy instruments and social processes of dissolution of boundaries, today’s offices sometimes hardly recall their rootedness in the bureaucracies of the modern mass state and its production sites. Equipped with playgrounds, gardens and their own pubs, they are now positioned as places of relaxation and social cohesion – triggered by the creative industries and the IT sector. The media, objects and types of furnishing used here constitute the office as an environment that facilitates specific self-perceptions, identity designs and work practices. The office thus comes into view both in its heterogeneous medialities and in its fundamental social function.
More details about the event will be announced shortly.
