How does cinematic form respond when its subject exists beyond binary categories? To what extent can a hybrid documentary approach become not merely a stylistic choice, but a structural necessity, when form and content are inseparable?

Drawing on “ANIMA – My Father’s Dresses”, the lecture explores how questions of identity, memory, and the body can give rise to a film language that moves between documentary, essay film, animation, and staged fiction. Particular attention will be given to the narrative strategies that allow ambiguity to remain open and productive, rather than resolving it into fixed meanings. The lecture also considers the possibilities and limits of documentary filmmaking when its subject challenges the very categories through which we attempt to understand it.

The event invites participants to discuss the search for cinematic form as both a political and a poetic act.
